National Demonstration Projects
National demonstration projects in
each of the target countries serves to provide working examples of urban
hazard mitigation. In each of the selected urban area in project
countries, a hazard or a set of hazards are assessed, followed by the design
and implementation of appropriate disaster mitigation measures.Starting in 1996 work on national
demonstration projects have made significant achievements in the target
countries. Implementation of national demonstration projects have
provided working examples of successful mitigation practices. To
replicate these working examples of successful mitigation practices to
other urban areas to save lives, a draft replication
strategy was
developed in December 1999 and it was presented and discussed at the 5th
Working Group Meeting (WGM) held in Phnom Penh Cambodia during 23-25 February
2000. The feedback from the WGM has been incorporated to finalize
the replication strategy to guide the Program in the years to come.
