Brian Ward
Memorial Lecture
The Brian
Ward Memorial Lecture is a series of lectures to honor the memory of
Brian Ward, the founding father of ADPC, for his great wisdom and
outstanding personal dedication and commitment to the field of
disaster risk reduction.
This
annual lecture series would be a platform for distinguished guest
lecturers to share their experiences that would contribute to
innovative initiatives on disaster risk reduction in the Asia and
Pacific region. The invited guest lecturers would be leading
practitioners and decision makers in their respective sub-themes
under the overall DRR theme, who are able to articulate their
experience and provide insights and useful ideas on the future of
DRR in Asia and the Pacific.
The guest
lecturers would represent International development partners,
development banks, International non-governmental organizations and
non-governmental organizations, institutions and technical
societies. The language would be in English. This is the inaugural
lecture to celebrate ADPC’s 25th anniversary and would be an annual
feature in the ADPC calendar held during the RCC Meetings.
We are
happy to announce that the first Brian Ward Memorial Lecture will be
delivered by Ms. Margareta Walström, Assistant
Secretary-General and UN Special Representative for Disaster Risk
Reduction on 24th March 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand.
