Dr. Senaka Basnayake

Dr. Senaka works as department head for the Climate Change and Climate Risk Management unit. He is experienced in conducting research on severe weather events, executing numerical models to simulate them, and analyzing observed meteorological and climatological data for understanding climate change, variability, and extreme weather events.

Before joining ADPC in 2010, Dr. Senaka served as scientist at the theoretical division of SAARC Meteorological Research Centre (SMRC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Previously he has worked as meteorologist at the Department of Meteorology in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and as senior meteorologist and meteorologist-in-charge at Centre for Climate Change Studies (CCCS). In 2005 - 2006, he has also served as thematic consultant of climate change for the UNDP funded National Capacity Self Assessment (NCSA) of Sri Lanka. Before his current position, he worked as urban climate risk management specialist under the Urban Disaster Risk Management unit at ADPC.

Dr. Senaka holds B.Sc. (special) Degree in physics, and a postgraduate diploma and Ph.D. Degree in meteorology.


   
Mr. Atiq Ahmed

Atiq works in the Climate Change and Climate Risk Management department as climate information application specialist. He focuses on the development of community-based early warning systems and societal application of usable science information to build climate resilience in Asia.

Atiq has over fifteen years of experience of working in leading positions in the field of climate change adaptation, people centric "end-to-end" early warning systems, social-ecological resilience, integrated coastal management, and societal application of usable science information. He has previously worked e.g. with Center for Environmental and Geographical Information Services (CEGIS), Asian Development Bank (ADB), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and IDS Plan International. Since the tsunami in 2004, Atiq has served in various regional multi-country programs such as the US government's Indian Ocean tsunami warning system (US IOTWS) and UNESCAP's Regional tsunami trust fund's (RTTF) implementation projects. He joined ADPC in 2006.

Atiq holds two Master's and one Bachelor's (Hons) Degree in social sciences including the field of applied anthropology.


   
Dr. Rishiraj Dutta

Dr. Rishiraj works as technical officer focusing on climate risk management in the Climate Change and Climate Risk Management department. He previously worked as senior geographic information system coordinator and technical officer (GIS) in ADPC's duty station in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Previously, Mr. Rishiraj has worked with the CGIAR research program on climate change, agriculture and food security. He has also served as visiting researcher and consultant for several international organizations under Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research. Dr. Rishiraj is an external referee for the National Research Council of Government of Romania and a reviewer for several international journals. He has published several papers in reputed journals internationally.

Dr. Rishiraj holds a Bachelor's Degree in agriculture, a Master's Degree in geoinformatics and Ph.D. in applied geoinformation and earth observation.


   
Mr. Susantha Jayasinghe

Susantha works is specialized in collecting and analyzing climate information. In the Climate Change and Climate Risk Management department he analyzes the vulnerability and impacts in different sectors, generates and prepares advance warnings, and develops adaptation strategies and identification of risk management opportunities to address residual risk.

Previously, Susantha has worked at the Department of Meteorology of Sri Lanka as research assistant, at the same time attending a graduate school in geographical information system (GIS) and remote sensing at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He joined ADPC in 2010.

Susantha holds a Bachelor's Degree in physical science.

Katevilai joined ADPC in 2009 and works with the departments of Climate Change and Climate Risk Management, Disaster Risk Assessment and Monitoring, and Resilient Cities and Urban Risk Management. She assists the departments in organizing and coordinating program activities.

Prior to joining ADPC, Katevilai worked as chief receptionist at AIT Conference Center at Asian Institute of Technology. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in office information science from School of Liberal Art at Sukhothaithammathirat University.
