The Cambodian Community-Based Flood Mitigation and Preparedness Project (CBFMP) was launched from 1 September, 1998 - 31 January, 2001. The goal of the project is to reduce the vulnerability of communities to floods by using an integrated, community-based disaster preparedness and mitigation process at the village level. The project has targeted three highly flood-prone provinces of Kampong Cham, Prey Veng, and Kandal, that border the Mekong River.

The project is implemented by a Management Committee comprising of PACT, Cambodia, Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the Federation).

To date, 23 flood mitigation solutions were developed by 75 Red Cross Volunteers and the Disaster Committees, they organized in Round I communities, 17 of which, 7 in Prey Veng, 6 in Kampong Cham, and 4 in Kandal are currently completed. Another 75 Volunteers who finished training in March 2000 have developed 25 mitigation solutions in their communities.
